Forget the presents, simply be present this Christmas!
Think about it honestly. How many times have you noticed yourself being with your child, but you’re not fully engaged? Maybe you were on your phone checking social media or emails. Perhaps you were simply running through all the things you still need to do to prepare for Christmas. Being there, but not being present is something we’re all guilty of occasionally, but Christmas time brings with it a real opportunity to make a change.
It’s easily said, but some of you may be wondering how to emphasise the gift of simply spending time together this Christmas, especially when your children have so many gifts vying for their attention.
The first step is to stop thinking of Christmas as just one day and to truly embrace the holiday season. Whilst Christmas is just days away, it’s not too late to squeeze in a last-minute visit to see Santa, spend some quality time with friends and family or enjoy a few simple activities together.
If you’re lucky enough to have time off from work this Christmas, take advantage of that time away from emails and business calls to really spend some time connecting with your child, having fun and celebrating the holiday season.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Take a last-minute trip to see Santa
- Dust off those old board games and have a family game night
- Read plenty of Christmas stories
- Snuggle up together to watch your favourite Christmas films
- Let your child choose the perfect carrots to leave out for Santa’s reindeer
- Visit family and friends, especially those you haven’t seen for a while
Time is a precious gift and we should cherish every moment. Tell us how you’ve been celebrating the holidays with your children!
