Have you employed a nanny who doesn’t yet have a National Insurance number? Are you a nanny applying for a job but you don’t have a NI number?
Don’t worry!
A nanny can still work, and be paid, without a NI number, but it is imperative that the nanny applies for one as quickly as possible so that any contributions can be allocated correctly.
The nanny will need to contact their local Jobcentre Plus or contact the National Insurance number application line.
If contacting Jobcentre Plus they may request an interview where the nanny will be asked to provide proof of their identity (passport, birth certificate etc.), details of their present circumstances, and the reason why they need a NI number.
Depending on the area where you live, this application can sometimes take up to 12 weeks so it’s best to start the application process as soon as possible.
You can contact the Nation Insurance number application line on 0800 141 2075 Mon – Fri 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
