About this client/child: Andy (16) lives at home with his Mum, Dad, and his younger sister. Andy is an active teenager, who loves spending time outdoors and going on days out to theme parks, funfairs, water parks, and the zoo. He enjoys being in open spaces where he can run around, and places that are full of excitement and entertainment. When Andy is at home, he likes to have iPad time, play with his many toys, and spend time in his adapted living area, which is equipped to meet his needs. Andy has Epilepsy due to Dravet Syndrome, learning disabilities, is on the Autistic Spectrum, and has limited spontaneous communication. He has food orally and a PEG in place for liquids and medication. Andy can walk short distances and uses a wheelchair for longer walks.

Overview of role: Saturday shifts start bright and early at 9.00am and will begin at Andy’s family home. Andy will need support with his morning routine, personal care, dressing and feeding, and if heading out for the day, his Support Worker will get his packed lunch ready. Then, typically (unless Andy is not feeling 100% or the weather is very bad), it’s out for a day of fun and adventure, partaking in one of the many exciting activities that Andy loves to do! Andy’s Support Worker will need to be proactive in planning day trips based around Andy’s interests and expanding these interests by finding new things to do too. Andy’s home has great public transport links, and his Support Worker will need to be confident to plan routes, being mindful of wheelchair accessibility and step free access. Then, it’s back home for dinner, relaxing and playing with Andy until the end of your shift. This is a part-time role, working alternate Saturdays, 9.00am to 7.30pm. Additional bank shifts are also available to help cover other Support Workers’ sickness and annual leave.

Who this job would suit: This position will suit a confident, experienced, and enthusiastic Support Worker, who is looking for some additional hours. Someone who is proactive at finding new activities to do, and who likes to be active and busy. Someone who is a confident swimmer is a must as this is one of Andy’s favourite activities. This role offers bank shifts, so this may suit someone working in a school with availability in the school holidays, or someone working for an agency with flexible working patterns.

What’s great about this job: Fantastic training opportunities from the (Snap Care) Team Manager and Senior Support Worker. Accessible location with great transport links.

Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews.
