About this client: Jacob is 15 years old, and lives at home with his parents and younger brother in Woking. He is an engaging, funny, charming young man with a great sense of humour. There is a cheeky side to his personality as he loves to joke around or play pranks. He loves to chat and is a great conversationist! Jacob is an avid Football Fan, and travels to watch games; this is a big hobby! Another passion of his is music, any genre at all, anything with a beat! Other hobbies include gaming, swimming, cooking and skiing. Jacob has Cerebral Palsy, and because of his condition he requires practical support to meet his care needs. He is a wheelchair user, and can weight bear, and transition with support (equipment to assist such as a Sara Stedy). There is a lift in his home that Jacob uses for getting up or downstairs. All in all, Jacob is a really cool guy, and a typical teen, and he is excited to expand his support team to facilitate his independence.
Overview of role: Jacob gets home from school each afternoon at 4.30pm on the dot, which means you must be ready and waiting for him at the front door. Once at home, Jacob will usually have a snack, a bit of a chill, or therapy, depending on which day it is, dinner, bath and bed. The Support Worker / PA will assist Jacob with each part of his routine, whilst continually promoting his independence and self-help skills. Jacob requires support with personal care and lifting (with equipment) on and off the toilet. Jacob tends to need assistance regularly during the night, typically for repositioning, he will alert you via a video and audio monitor as and when he requires support. There are other duties to complete throughout the night such as light household duties, getting school bags ready, etc. Jacob is picked up at 7.30am by school transport, so the mornings are busy, and it is essential that everything is prepared and ready to go. Jacob would like his Support Worker / PA to ensure his phone, watch and Air Pods are charging throughout the night so he has them on the school bus – the most important part of the role according to Jacob!
Who this job would suit: It is essential that you are punctual, organised and dedicated. You will share similar interests with Jacob and genuinely love to laugh and have a bit of banter. You will be an advocate, enjoy working with teenagers, bring energy, fun, chat and see this as a buddy / PA role.
What’s great about this job: Jacob is a pleasure to work with and support, he is great fun to work with. There is ongoing support and supervision with plenty of opportunities to upskills and continued professional development.
