Nanny (Special needs)
About the role/family: We are an American family of two mums in South East London looking for a dedicated Special Needs weekend Nanny to support our 7-year-old son. We are seeking an experienced and resilient Special Needs Nanny interested in a long-term role, supporting all aspects of our son’s home life and education. Our son currently has a 1:1 in school and an EHCP. We have an older son who also has ASD/ADHD but needs limited support and does not currently have an EHCP. The role is focused on our youngest son given his additional needs for activity and Speech and Language support for him & the family. There may be some occasions when the Special Needs Nanny watches both children at our home.
We are keen to find a Special Needs Nanny who will help us evolve our strategies to support his speech, give context in situations, give our son advance notice of what to expect, support our son if he becomes stressed/dysregulated, and keep him safe whilst ensuring he feels supported.
About the Child: Our son is a cheerful and curious 7-year-old boy who enjoys stories, music, trains, transportation, outdoor adventures, nature appreciation, excursions, sensory play (sand and water), swimming & trampolining.
Our son has a diagnosis of Autism with delayed verbal communication. He currently communicates using echolalia as well as some short, simple sentences. We actively encourage him to verbalise during activities and requests to foster independence. We are mindful that speaking can be tiring for him and place importance on responding to his non-verbal cues and modelling language during interactions. We open to support on how to better support our son’s communication and self-regulation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
? Prepare and provide meals for our son during shifts.
? Engage our son in preferred activities.
? Support our son's development throughout the day.
? Assist with reading, writing, and numeracy exercises.
? Provide regular updates to the family.
? Keep shared spaces tidy after use.
? Manage bath time and bedtime routines.
? Escort our son to activities, appointments, and play dates.
? Support toileting needs.
? Foster our son’s independence and communication skills.
