About the role/child/children: SENNIES are excited to support a caring family, consisting of a single mother and her two sons aged 14 and 8, seek a compassionate and trauma-informed Sennie to provide consistent, therapeutic support. Both boys have experienced early trauma and have severe attachment disorders; B14 also has ADHD and probable FASD. The role will primarily focus on caring for B8, who is currently without a school placement, offering him stability, engagement, and emotional safety. The family follow a therapeutic parenting approach, with calm, structured, and child-led (but adult-boundaried) activities to help the boys feel secure and connected. The Sennie will support the younger child’s separation anxiety, build trust through play and empathy, and promote self-regulation and confidence. Mum, a paediatrician, works closely with a play therapist funded by the Adoption Support Fund, and the Sennie will be part of this supportive, collaborative environment. This role suits someone patient, emotionally attuned, and experienced with children who have experienced trauma, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a family committed to healing and growth.

B8 is a loving and curious young boy who has experienced significant early trauma, impacting his attachment and social development. He often presents at a younger developmental level than his age and benefits from a calm, consistent, and attuned adult presence. He is beginning to learn to read and has strong interests in space, vehicles, and technology. He thrives during hands-on activities, particularly outdoors, such as exploring the woods, using tools, or sharing discoveries on his computer games. These activities help him feel confident, connected, and engaged in learning. B8 requires relationship-focused support to develop trust, emotional regulation, and social confidence. A Sennie can provide small, achievable learning opportunities, model positive interactions, and offer a predictable, nurturing presence. By working closely with the family and following their strategies, the Sennie will help B8 feel secure, gradually expand his learning and social skills, and support his overall development at home and in future educational settings.
