Nanny-Personal Assistant
A 7-year-old, 4-year-old, and their parents are relocating to Amsterdam from America. You need to be confident with both sole charge and shared care. The children will attend school full-time, and they enjoy a variety of activities, including dancing, art, basketball, and reading. Your main focus is the care, development, and well-being of the children. While the children are at school, some support with PA/family assistant tasks is required.
Vital requirements: EU passport or Dutch resident permit (EU passport is a preference due to regular travel) and a confident swimmer.
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 45 hours | Hours: TBD | The family is establishing their exact needs and will discuss the daily schedule during the interviews. Flexibility is key; there will be extra hours when travelling and occasional proxy parenting.
Start Date: Ideally 1st August, however can wait until September for the right candidate. The initial contract will be for seven months, with the likelihood of extending as they would like someone to stay long-term.
Responsibilities and duties:
Plan and lead age-appropriate educational activities, creative play, and outdoor excursions tailored to each child’s developmental stage
Manage daily routines including meals, school drop-off/pick-up, homework support, and extracurricular activities
Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for the children (the household manager will also cook for the family). Creativity and previous experience working with children with limited dietary preferences are key
Support the children’s social integration—facilitating playdates, local friendships, and community activities in a new city (previous experience working as a nanny in Amsterdam is ideal)
Wardrobe organization for children
Maintain children’s spaces and belongings in an organized state across a large home
Coordinate with other household staff on scheduling, meal timing, and household flow
Build a positive and collaborative working relationship with the household manager and other staff
Communicate proactively with parents on developmental milestones, school updates, and any concerns.
Experience, qualifications, approach, and skills:
Minimum 5 years of childcare experience, including as a nanny and caring for children of similar ages
Fluent English is required; Dutch, French, or additional languages are a strong plus
It's a plus if you have relevant qualifications or a teaching degree
A nanny whose approach involves giving the children appropriate boundaries while encouraging their curiosity
PA tasks include household errands, package handling, post office trips, pharmacy, ordering school supplies, arranging and finding activities, dentists, doctors, etc
You need to be organised, proactive, and solution- focused
Experience supporting a family who relocated, and knowledge regarding Dutch culture and family life in Amsterdam, is preferred
Most importantly, you are proactive, positive, and excited to care for the children.
