Nanny
Nanny - Teddington
Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm, year-round | Live-out
Start date: January
A warm, busy professional family is looking for an experienced nanny for their two young children aged 2 and 4 years.
Both parents work full time and need an experienced and qualified Nanny to be a real part of the team: confident caring for the children, and able to take ownership of the household rhythm.
The children
Two bright, lively young children who have some additional needs, SEN experience with Autism and ADHD is required. You’ll understand emotional regulation and recognise the early signs of overwhelm. You’ll also be able to support a child calmly through meltdowns and periods of overwhelm. The family’s approach is firm but fair: once things have calmed down, the behaviour is talked through. You’ll work on the children’s development, building on the areas where they’re advanced while gently supporting the skills that are still emerging.
How the role works
During term time, the children attend morning nursery and main stream school. That’s when you’ll focus on light housekeeping. During the school holidays your focus will be on the children, (You would have had time to plan ahead during term time, with batch cooked meals and activities planned). The family loves days out, and memberships are provided for local attractions.
Childcare
Sole charge of the children whenever they’re not at school or nursery
School and nursery runs, plus taking them to activities and weekly swimming lessons
Reading and homework support
Speech therapy support
Arranging balanced playdates and planning creative activities at home and out and about
Keeping screen time limited (None is preferred, but 30 mins a day if needed)
Starting the bedtime routine when needed
Housekeeping
Planning varied, healthy meals and cooking them from scratch with low salt and sugar. You’ll be adventurous enough to introduce new foods, and happy to bake or cook with the children
Planning meals a week ahead and keeping the shopping list up to date
Cooking the children’s dinner early, plus a hot lunch on days at home
Family laundry, ironing (especially school uniforms), and preparing school bags and snack boxes
Keeping an eye on clothes and shoe sizes, spare-clothes bags and supplies, and flagging what’s needed
Helping pack the children’s things for family holidays
Light tidying to keep the home ticking over (a cleaner comes in weekly)
Being home for tradespeople and helping organise repairs
The ideal candidate will
Have significant experience caring for more than one child at a time. SEN or neurodiversity experience is essential
Treat both children fairly and approach behaviour with patience and understanding
Be proactive and organised, with good communication. You’ll keep the family informed and won’t wait to be told what to do
Love cooking healthy, home-made food
Be a confident swimmer and comfortable using public transport
Hold a paediatric first aid certificate and an enhanced DBS on the Update Service. Ofsted registration is desirable
This is a lovely, varied role for someone who enjoys both children and the home, and who wants to make a real difference to a family’s daily life.
